Summonses issued by the City's Department of Consumer Affairs and Worker Protections to "non-licensed businesses" (like retail shops, hair salons and grocery stores) INCREASED BY 171 PERCENT in one year! We don’t know why.

We don't know why, and we also don't know much about the specific violations or where they took place. That's why we're urging the City Council to adopt legislation that would require the City to release additional data so we can spot trends among the violations. Then, organizations like ours can conduct outreach in the areas that need more training to comply with city laws.
