In September/October 2024 the Chamber surveyed 264 storefront businesses (retail shops, restaurants, etc.) in Manhattan. The vast majority of the businesses surveyed had 10 or fewer employees. Major findings include:

• Of the businesses that were open before Covid, half said they doing worse and making less revenue than they were before the pandemic. 
• Half also noted that fewer customers are coming into their businesses and, when customers do come in they are spending less. 
• 37% said they were either nervous about the future of their business or that it was headed for closure.
